Inspire Positivity, Inc. will host its second annual Friends and Family Fall Festival and voter registration event at Eastside Park in LaGrange on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The event is being held in celebration of National Voter Registration Day, a nonpartisan civic holiday that started in 2012. Nearly 4.7 million voters have registered to vote on the holiday, according to the non-profit that helps support the nationwide event.
The event comes on the heels of National Disability Voter Registration Week which runs Sept. 12-16. Inspire Positivity, Inc. is a disability community advocate and human services nonprofit organization.
The event will be for everyone, not just those with disabilities. Inspire Positivity founder Lee Jones advised that the event is also nonpartisan, so they won’t be endorsing any candidates, but candidates will be allowed to speak to potential voters.
All five of the candidates for the special election to fill the unexpired District 2 seat of LeGree McCamey have confirmed that they will be at the event, according to Jones.
Jones said the event will help people get registered to vote and provide information on how and where to vote.
“The event will provide voter education, information on developing a voting plan, redistricting and anything that affects persons with disabilities that affects their ability to vote,” Jones said.
The organizers aim for the festival be a family-fun event with music, food trucks, speakers and other vendors.
“We’re also going to have a mini job fair, so, Milliken will be there. The Department of Community Affairs will also be there,” she said.
A few more community partners are going to participate as well, but the full list has not been finalized. They are also planning a free diapers and baby wipes giveaway, said Jones. Other sponsors of the event include Compassionate Cities LaGrange, Rev Up Georgia and The People’s Agenda.
The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Eastside Park at 240 Niles Street in LaGrange.
