Tuesday saw over 50 runners from the five local high schools – Callaway, Lafayette Christian, LaGrange, LaGrange Academy and Troup – converge on Lafayette Christian’s cross country course to figure out the fastest boys and girls in the area. 

The boys kicked off the event with 42 runners taking part in the event. MyKell Strickland finished first with a record breaking time. His 18:35 stands as the new course record at Lafayette Christian. The next closest finisher was LaGrange’s Bo Beall, who finished nearly a minute behind the winner. Another Granger – Walker Vinson – rounded out the top three. The highest finishing Cougar was Joshua Zapata in fourth place. Colie Baker, an eighth grader from LaGrange Academy, flashed his immense potential by finishing sixth with a time of 20:58. Caleb Lynd was the highest finishing Troup Tiger who finished 11th.

The team champion for the boys section was LaGrange with Callaway finishing runner-up.

On the girls side of things it was a contest between just 10 runners from four schools with Troup absent from the girl’s race. Raliegh Thompson dominated for the Grangers as she finished over a minute ahead of the next closest runner with a time of 23:28. Another Granger – Reese Humphries – finished second with a time of 24:38. Callaway’s Kayle Flores rounded out the top three with a time of 26:05. 

The Grangers once again came away with the team championship with Laffayete Christian finishing runner-up.
