Visit LaGrange is now accepting volunteers to help with the Visitor Center. According to Kathy Tilley, President of Visit LaGrange, they are looking take on 10 new volunteers.

Volunteers will primarily greet guests, hand out information about LaGrange, answer questions, give recommendations to places to eat, things to do and occasionally sell merchandise and answer the phone at the center.

“It’s a real fun job for people who like people and like to talk to people,” Tilley said. “We have a wide variety of people that come through the visitor center. Matter of fact, today, we’ve had two or three families who were evacuated from Florida who have now come up to Great Wolf Lodge.”

Tilley said they are looking for people who are interested in talking to the public, have a good personality and have a genuine love for LaGrange.

Potential volunteers will work typically two to four hours per shift., Monday through Friday. To be a volunteer, interested parties must be at least 21 years old.

“We schedule volunteers when it’s convenient for them, “Tilley said. “For example, say if someone wanted to work every Tuesday from 10 to two, we work with our volunteers according to what works for them.”

Volunteers that work for the center currently are now mostly retired.

“It’s a great thing for teachers in the summer if they’re not working, or people who might be between jobs or people who have some free time,” Tilley said

Tilley said normally when people come in they ask them where they’re from and what brought them to LaGrange.

“Sometimes we get new residents. I had a couple that are new residents come in yesterday that just moved here from Connecticut, and they didn’t know what all the things were to do here,” Tilley said. “We sometimes get people who just don’t know everything and are curious what the visitor’s center is.”
