Late game heroics from sophomore star Camdyn Bassett lifted Troup to a pivotal 5-3 region victory over Trinity Christian on Tuesday.
With a runner on third, the game tied and one out, Bassett launched her fourth home run of the year as the ball traveled out of the park and over the left field wall in the top of the seventh inning. She finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. She was not just an offensive threat as she pitched the complete game and got the final three outs of the contest. Bassett only allowed five hits on six strikeouts in the game.
Ramsey Clark scored on an error in the first inning to give the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead, but the game turned into a back-and-forth affair. Trinity Christian took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the second with a couple of runs.
Clark was back at it in the third inning as she once again scored on an error to tie the game. Clark got a hit and scored two runs as she provided a spark from the leadoff spot.
It was far from a clean game by either team as they combined to commit 11 errors in the game.
Trinity Christian retook the lead in the fourth inning by plating a run, but the Tigers had a response every time it looked like the Lions would steal momentum. The response came this time in the form of a Maggie McDonald RBI single with two outs in the top of the fifth. The senior leader was crucial from the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
The score stayed deadlocked until the seventh inning heroics by Bassett.
Shelby Addison and Madeira Sirmons each had a hit apiece in the game to help spark the Tigers offense.
Troup improved to 12-8 overall and 8-4 in region play. This win sent the Tigers to third place in the region as they surpassed Trinity Christian in the standings.
