With the soon-to-be arrivals of Sonic, Chipotle, the Oink Joint and more, it seems LaGrange is becoming a hotspot for new businesses and franchises to set up shop. Scoops, an old-fashioned candy store, can be added to that list.
“We really liked the community,” said Norma Bird, part owner of the LaGrange Scoops. “It’s up and coming and being revitalized, so we’re excited to be coming there.”
Scoops makes handmade artisan chocolate bars, truffles, caramels, gourmet candy apples, ice cream, milkshakes and other confections. The new location will be located at 104 Main Street.
Originally founded by Susan and Jimmy Kirk, Scoops began as a dream realized into reality with the first Scoops opening in downtown Madison. Now, there are 10 locations in Georgia with more to come.
Susan said Scoops’ people and customer service makes them different. They take pride in who they hire and welcome everyone to the store.
According to their website, all of the confections use unique blends of flavors and ingredients to create rich, delicious treats unlike any other.
Susan said some popular treats are the banana pudding, the ultimate peanut butter brownie and the strawberry cheese cake.
“Scoops is a neighborhood place, and we want to be part of LaGrange helping make memories for people that might come down after dinner and come over for dessert,” Susan said.
The owners of the Scoops opening in LaGrange are Norma and Mike Bird.
“We really liked the community. It’s up and coming and being revitalized,” Norma said. “We love the square and the concept of the store being just off the square.”
Norma said LaGrange was an attractive location for the store for a couple of reasons.
“There’s a couple of colleges out there, the amphitheater, the brewery, the parks, the baseball tournaments, the foot traffic in downtown LaGrange, and its proximity to other things like Great Wolf Lodge and Callaway Gardens,” she said.
Norma said she hopes this new location of Scoops will bring smiles to the faces of kids and be a great place for families and the community to come together and make good memories.
“We want to be an asset to the community,” Norma said. “We think that LaGrange is a great little town and the people have been so warm and welcoming. We’re looking forward to opening the doors and getting going.”
The LaGrange location of Scoops is projected to open in early December.
