On Friday, Resource MFG hosted its third annual Manufacturing Day at Hyundai Transys Powertrain. According to Resource MFG business development manager Maria Gluckler, the event brought over 200 high schoolers from the Troup County Career Center, THINC Academy in Troup County and the Jr. ROTC from West Coweta County.

“Manufacturing Day is a way for us to bring students in from the community and give them the opportunity to see how cool manufacturing is and what opportunities they could have in manufacturing from entry-level positions up to high-skilled positions,” Gluckler said.

Throughout the day, students took tours around the plant and were able to see the inner workings of how the manufacturing of goods worked at Hyundai.

“My main goal is to really make sure that we’re giving back to the community, and we’re giving these kids an opportunity to see what jobs are available within their community,” Gluckler said. “Whether they go off to college, the military, or go to a trade school, they know that they can come back to Troup County and have a job here.”

Gluckler said this year’s turnout has been the biggest and is excited that there were many students interested in manufacturing.

Eddie Mabe, senior manager of human resources and administration for Hyundai Transys, said the company will be hiring soon for the upcoming year. The hope is that they draw the interest of some students who participated on the tour.

During the tours, Hyundai explained what Hyundai Transit Powertrain is and who they are as part of the Hyundai Motor Group. The students were broken into groups of 12 and taken to different facilities in the plant to teach them about the different careers paths at the company.

“Hopefully, if they go out into the workforce when they graduate in the spring, they will think about Hyundai and come back and apply for jobs —or we may spark an interest where they will see something they want to do for a career in engineering, production management, logistics, safety, environmental health or human resources,” Mabe said.
