OUR VIEW: Congrats to the Tigers and Cavaliers on region titles

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

First off, we know there’s a lot of season left.

Neither, the Callaway Cavaliers or Troup Tigers are spending this week celebrating as they prepare for season closing contests and (hopefully) long playoff runs ahead. But boy was it fun Friday night to see two of our local teams clinch region football titles.

Troup is having a dream season. To this point, the Tigers are still unbeaten, and the victory over Trinity Christian Friday night clinched the team’s first region title since 1987. Rightfully, the Tigers sideline celebrated the moment Friday, though we know Tanner Glisson has the Tigers refocused on LaGrange this week, especially given how much is on the line for the Grangers.

Meanwhile, Callaway probably gave its supporters a little bit of a scare after an 0-3 start. However, after playing three really good teams (one being Troup) to begin the year, the Cavaliers rebounded and haven’t lost since, clinching another region title under Pete Wiggins.

Is there anyone in AA that wants to play the Cavaliers right now? They’ve won six in a row, all by 14 points or more.  The last five have been by 20 or more.

Both teams have a lot to be proud of this year, and we want to say congratulations as we look forward to what could be a magical postseason for both teams.

And no, we aren’t forgetting about LaGrange High and Lafayette Christian, who both have big games Friday that will determine their playoff hopes.

We’re guessing more than a few of you are looking forward to both of those games Friday. We certainly can’t wait.
