Sweetland Amphitheatre will once again transform into a winter wonderland with its annual holiday tradition, Sweetland on Ice. The ice rink will return to Sweetland’s great lawn on Nov. 18.

Sweetland on Ice features a covered 5,500-square-foot open-air ice-skating rink that’s fun for the whole family, even folks who don’t skate. A spectator section with heaters will be available for skaters and other guests throughout the season.

Sweetland on Ice will also screen holiday movies on two Fridays in December, which is new to the event this year. The screenings are free to the public like the summer movie series Sweetland has hosted for years.

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000) will be shown on Dec. 2 and “The Polar Express” will be shown on Dec. 16. Both movies are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

In addition to standard Sweetland concessions, Sweetland on Ice will have winter snacks and drinks, including hot chocolate, coffee and s’mores.

“We will also have drinks themed for The Grinch and The Polar Express,” said Mary Kate Nix, Sweetland Operations Manager.

The annual holiday tradition has been a big success for Sweetland Amphitheater. Nix said more than 25,000 tickets were sold to skate last year.

LaGrange Communications Manager Katie Van Schoor said Sweetland on Ice is one of the reasons why LaGrange was named a top city for the holidays. LaGrange was recently recognized as one of Eight Small Towns that do Christmas Right by the Explore Georgia travel guide.

Tickets to skate, including skate rental, are $15 and $10 for kids 10 and under, or $9 if you bring your own skates. Group rates are also available.

Sweetland on Ice is open to the public on Thursday and Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. Bookings for private parties are available Monday through Wednesday.

Holiday hours are noon to 9 p.m. for Thanksgiving week from Nov. 21 to Nov. 27 and Christmas break from Dec. 19 to Dec. 30. Sweetland on Ice will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
