If you weren’t from Troup County and went to Walmart on a Saturday or Sunday in early December, you might think something terrible was happening. Lights flashing everywhere and every law enforcement agency in the area lined up in front, the length of the building.
All of us locals know that it’s actually a good thing, as it means the Marine Corp League and local law enforcement are getting together for their annual Toys for Tots drive. The hope is that people will give money or toys on their way in or out of the store, and thankfully, so many do.
Honestly, it’s truly amazing how many stop and give a few dollars.
Law enforcement officers always stand outside and hand out candy, waving to everyone going in the store. Walmart is such a busy place this time of year, making it the perfect location to close the fundraiser.
We’re thankful to every area business that had a Toys for Tots box this year. We applaud all of the local law enforcement agencies — the Hogansville Police Department, Troup County Sheriff’s Office, LaGrange Police Department, West Point Police Department, Georgia State Patrol — for playing such an integral role.
And we thank the Marine Corps League for all they do, once again leading the charge during this really important effort.
Thanks to all of those people, children in Troup County will have some presents under the tree this Christmas.
