The Callaway girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season in a 69-47 defeat to region foe Landmark Christian on Friday.

The War Eagles jumped on the Cavaliers in the first quarter, taking a 22-9 lead after the opening eight minutes of play. Callaway was able to cut the lead to single digits going into the break.

The Cavaliers could not quite claw their way back into the game in the second half as the offense struggled without Keiyunna Maddox in the lineup to initiate the offense.

Only five Cavaliers scored on the night with Ta’Niya Mitchell leading all scorers with 11 points and Jailyn Baker chipping in with 10 to round out the Cavaliers in double figures.

Callaway falls to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in region play. The Cavaliers will return to the court after Christmas break on Jan. 5 when they play Handley on the road.
