The LaGrange girls basketball team started region play on the right foot with a 52-39 win over North Clayton.

Simply put, Brittney Heard was the star of the show. She finished with a game high 23 points and scored at least five points in every quarter of play as she kept the offense chugging through the whole game. No other Grangers scored in double figures with Myia Thornton and Peyton Swint scoring nine and eight points respectively to help lead the offensive attack.

Heard sparked the offense, but the defense was a complete team effort. The Grangers only allowed 12 points total in the first half, which allowed them to take a commanding 17 point lead at the break.

While LaGrange’s offense and defense were not as efficient in the second half, their lead was never in any real danger late in the contest.

LaGrange moved to 4-7 on the season, but the Grangers are 4-3 in their last seven games. With the win over North Clayton, LaGrange moves 1-0 in region play.

The Grangers will host Whitewater at 4 p.m on Saturday. Whitewater is 0-1 in the region after losing to Riverdale 50-41 on Tuesday.
