The Troup girls basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak on Tuesday when they beat Whitewater 50-34 to capture their first region win of the season.

Alexcia Murphy put on a clinic, scoring a game-high 28 points in the game. She scored at least five points in every quarter, but it was her dominance in the second quarter that elevated the Tigers. Troup led by just five after the first quarter, but Murphy scored 11 points in the second quarter to help power the Tigers to a double-digit lead at halftime.

The Tigers offense was not as efficient in the second half, but they did enough as the defense controlled the third quarter to silence the home crowd. The Tigers only allowed four points in the third quarter as they put the Wildcats in a hole they could not recover from in the fourth quarter.

Angie Dowell chipped in with 13 points to help lead the Tigers with only three other players scoring besides her and Murphy. No one else had more than four points.

Troup improved to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in region play. The Tigers will host the fifth place team in the region, Riverdale, on Friday.
