Troup County has executed a local emergency declaration, according to County Manager Eric Mosley.

The declaration allows for local assistance from the state or federal government, depending on the total amount of damage from the storm.

“Depending on the amount of damage done dollar-wise, there’s a possibility by doing so that allows us to have access to some state if not potentially, federal aid, and disaster is at a threshold,” Mosley said.

Mosley said Troup County Commission Chair Patrick Crews approved the declaration.

Mosley said he was not aware of any fatalities but that the county would have more information as the night went on.

“We’re currently in the process of triaging, prioritizing and responding to things as we have available resources,” he said. “Probably the probably the biggest hold up right now primarily are utilities that are down and so those have to be cleaned up before we really are able to get into some areas.”

Mosley said he asks people to say off the roads so emergency vehicles can get through.

“Stay home if you can,” he said. “And if you’re in danger, call number one. And we’ll certainly do our best to get to you as quickly as we possibly can.”
