Heartbreak for the Grangers.

The LaGrange girls basketball team suffered a tough 46-39 loss to North Clayton in overtime on Friday.

LaGrange had a chance to win it late in regulation but turned the ball over with under five seconds to go to doom their chances of winning before overtime. With the game tied at 36 heading into overtime, the Grangers could not find much offense and were only able to muster three points in the extra four minutes of play. All three points came on free throws and the Grangers had a chance for more but missed five free throws in overtime.

In fact, free throw shooting proved to be their undoing. The Grangers missed six free throws in the fourth quarter as well.

The Grangers had to mount a second half comeback after looking a bit sluggish to open the game. LaGrange trailed by two points after the first quarter and was down 20-15 at halftime. The offense came alive in the second half, however, and the Grangers would take a one point lead into the fourth quarter.

Brittney Heard led the Grangers with 12 points — all coming from the free throw line. Corriah Williams finished with nine points, and Peyton Swint had eight to help lead the Granger offense.

LaGrange fell to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in region play. The Grangers will travel to Trinity Christian on Saturday for a region game.
