Riding the winning wave.
That is what the Tsunamis of the parks and rec 10U indoor soccer league have been doing this year. The Tsunamis are heading into the final stretch of the season undefeated as they just keep putting together wins.
“I’m pretty surprised (we are undefeated),” head coach Cory Jarrell said. “We have players that were on teams last year that didn’t even win a game.”
Jarrell typically coaches baseball and football with the parks and rec department but decided to give soccer a go this season, and it has been a tremendous success.
“I’ve been coaching baseball and football with the parks and rec and thought why not try soccer,” Jarrell said.
The team consisted of players from sports that Jarrell had coached previously. Some of the players requested Jarrell to be their coach as they knew what kind of leader he could be at baseball and football.
“It’s a lot different from what I coached previously,” Jarrell said. “It’s very physical and everything is so tight unlike outdoor soccer.”
Jarrell was excited to try his hand at soccer and his enthusiasm has spilled over onto the players who attack the game with confidence and joy.
The Tsunamis are made up of 12 players — Peyton McNinch, Parker McNinch, Jerzinho Chavez, Colton Lawrence, Kamdon Everett, Eunice Kim, Silas Havens, Ava Callahan, Melaina Sanchez, Cerina Sanchez, Dylan Stewart and Landon Kade Jarrell.
The Tsunamis plan to keep their winning ways rolling for a bit longer this season. The team has just one game left on the docket as they take on the Earthquakes at the Mike Daniel Center on Feb. 9.
