On a rain soaked evening at Callaway Stadium, the Callaway girls soccer team earned their first win of the season in a 3-1 victory over Shaw on Thursday.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at Callaway High but the Cavaliers’ field was waterlogged so they traveled across the county to set up shop at Callaway Stadium.
The Cavaliers overcame a sluggish first half to put the game away in the second period. Autumn Brown shined with a goal and a pair of assists as she contributed to all three goals scored for the Cavaliers. She has scored in both games to kickoff her junior season and has shined brightly with her attacking ability having a goal contribution on four of the Cavaliers five goals through two games.
She was not the only Cavalier to get on the scoresheet on Thursday with Kate McAteer and Isla Garcia both scoring their first goals of the 2023 campaign. Mary Kate Baswell also picked up her first assist of the season when she played in Brown for her goal.
Unfortunately, the Cavaliers have now conceded four goals in two games and will be looking to shore up the back moving forward.
With the win over Shaw, Callaway improved to 1-1 on the young season. The Cavaliers will be back in action when they host Chattahoochee County on Tuesday.
