Dr. Cornelia Mae Weir Hoggs passed away Monday at her home in West Point, Georgia.
She was born Jan. 11, 1940, in Kennedy, Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Deacon Lanon Welch and late Deaconess Hassia Cornelia Shaw Weir.
Cornelia confessed hope in Christ and joined the New Grove Missionary Baptist Church where.
After graduating from the Lamar County Training School, Dr. Cornelia attended Selma University. She transferred to Alabama State University and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education. She is a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
She taught at Lanett Jr. High School where she would teach until she retired and concluded thirty-eight years.
She is survived by her children: Yolanda (Mark) McCord of Lanett, Alabama; Cheryl (Pastor Michael T.) Stiggers of West Point, Georgia; Dr. Edward (La’Vella) Hoggs of Dalton, Georgia; and Debbie Hoggs of West Point, Georgia; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; and an array of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Service will be Saturday at 11 A.M. at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
The excellent care of Dr. Hoggs is being provided by Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.
