Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It was an opening night battle of the Tigers, and it lived up to the billing as Harris County narrowly edged Troup 4-3 on a Canyon Meeks walk-off in the eighth inning.

Troup got off to a fast start and plated two runs in the first inning when Daniel Murphy scored on a balk from the pitcher before Reed Morris scored on an error.

The game stayed locked at 2-0 until Skylar Brown launched a home run over the right field wall to tie the game up in the bottom of the third inning.

That was not the last home run in the game as Josh McDonald hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning. Once again, Troup would surrender the lead when Meeks delivered an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning. Meeks was superb on the night, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks.

Troup was able to get a runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh inning but could not come away with a pivotal run.

Harris County eventually got the winning run, but it was anything but easy as it came down to fine margins.

The Troup offense struggled to get going despite scoring three runs. They could only muster two hits. Josh McDonald’s home run and a single by freshman Carson Walkers, who starts off life at Troup on a good note.

Caleb Allen got the start on the mound but did not have his usual stuff and was replaced by Demetrius Hardnett who gave Troup four good innings on the mound, allowing just three hits and one earned run on five strikeouts. Tripp Cummings came in and pitched a solid three innings to close the game.

Troup falls to 0-1 to start the season but will get a chance to rebound on the road against Northgate on Tuesday.
