One down, two to go.

LaGrange Academy cruised to a 71-25 win over Twiggs on Friday to make the semifinals of the state playoffs.

Despite the monster win, coach Ken Klinger did not believe his girls played up to the standard they have set this season as the no. 1 ranked team in their conference.

The Warriors dominated the first quarter with a complete team effort. Their defense, which has been outstanding all year, only allowed a single point in the first quarter, which allowed the Warriors to take a 19-1 lead after the opening eight minutes. It was not one player that led the way with four players scoring four points in the opening quarter for the Warriors.

By halftime, the Warrior lead had ballooned up to 41-7, which put the game out of reach but the Warriors defense was not as stingy coming out of the break.

Jazmin Thornton led the Warriors in scoring with 16, but all five starters ended up scoring in double figures as the offense was spread around. Tesia Garrett-Hammett put together one of her best performances of the season and finished with 15 points while Anna Beth Kinnersley kept up her hot streak down the stretch, scoring 14 on the afternoon. Kayla McBride and Laura Knight also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.

LaGrange Academy is now 20-1 on the season and has won 12 games in a row to build some momentum. The Warriors will play Robert Toombs in the semifinals next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The game will be played at the University of West Georgia.
