On Saturday, the Troup County School System Middle School Honor Orchestra will hold the first of what it hopes to be an annual event with its Troup County Middle School Honor Orchestra concert.
The concert is presented by TCSS in collaboration with the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra.
The short concert will feature students nominated from all TCSS middle schools, as well as private and homeschooled students in Troup County.
Callaway Middle School Orchestra Teacher Rebecca Grabowski helped organize the concert with three other orchestra teachers in the district. The student performers were all nominated by their teachers.
This concert will feature four songs and should be about 30 minutes in length, according to Grabowski.
A total of 60 students will perform at the event, primarily from the Strings Attached program.
Grabowski said they will have students playing violin, viola, cello and string bass.
Conductors Michael Giel and Sam Lee with the LaGrange Symphony Youth Orchestra program will conduct the performance.
“None of us teachers are actually working with the students. We’re just helping to facilitate the students under the direction of the two conductors this weekend, as well as members of the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, who are doing sectionals with them,” Grabowski said.
The event offers opportunities for children to experience new music, and for parents to support orchestra participants and see what the program is all about, she said.
“It’s the first inaugural concert. We plan to do this event every year moving forward,” Grabowski said.
The concert will be held at the Callaway Auditorium at 801 Dallis St. in LaGrange at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The concert is free and open to the public.
