The Callaway boys soccer team showed off its firepower on Friday, earning a 6-2 home win over New Manchester for its kicking cancer game with a portion of proceeds donated to cancer research.

The first half was back and forth with Connor Davis putting the Cavaliers up 1-0 early with a goal but New Manchester struck back to tie the game at one mere minutes later and then took the lead shortly after that.

Journee Jordan put the Cavaliers back on level footing with a cool finish as the first half served up an open encounter.

A penalty cooly dispatched from Nelson Herrera and quick strike from freshman Rickey Vaughn late in the first half saw the Cavaliers go into halftime up 4-2 and allowed the defense a chance to regroup. The first half was end-to-end with chances at both sides, but Callaway was able to create the more clear cut chances and showed a ruthlessness in front of goal that New Manchester could not match.

The second half was the Herrera show as he grabbed his second and third goal of the night to cap off a hat-trick.

Herrera and Vaughn each registered an assist on the night as well.

Callaway is now 5-3 on the season. The Cavaliers will travel to Sandy Creek next Tuesday.
