ROME, Ga. – LaGrange College senior FOGO Jacob Jeffords (Marietta, Ga.) and sophomore attackman Ryan Comeau (Canton, Ga.) have been named USA South Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced by that organization on Monday, February 27.

Ryan Comeau – Offensive Player of the Week

Comeau erupted for the best week of his career as he produced 12 goals and four assists for 16 points over the course of two games. Of his 13 shots on goal he connected on 12 of them and added a pair of groundballs.

He opened the week with four goals in as many shots on goal against Birmingham-Southern (2/22) before delivering the best game of his career against Centenary (2/26). In that one he found the back of the net eight times and dished out four assists in leading the Panthers to a 30-8 victory over the Gents. That goal total broke the program record set against Point (29) in 2020.

Jacob Jeffords – Defensive Player of the Week

Jeffords delivered an NCAA record-setting performance for the ages over his two games this past week as he tallied 37 groundballs while going an incredible 59-of-72 at the center “X”. The latter was good for an 82-percent win rate.

He opened the week against Birmingham-Southern and proceeded to win 23-of-30 faceoffs and collect 13 groundballs. Jeffords then produced an NCAA Division III record-tying outing against Centenary (2/26), winning 36-of-42 faceoffs.

His defense of the center “X” was a performance that tied Southwestern’s (Texas) Hudson Bearden (4/11/21) and UMass Boston’s Jack Dobszynski (4/22/21) for the most faceoff wins at the level since the NCAA began tracking lacrosse records in 1971.

On top of that he recorded a whopping 24 groundballs and connected on all three shots he took for three goals against the Gents in helping the Panthers to a program record 30 goals in the 30-8 rout.

This marks the second time this season that Comeau has been named Offensive Player of the Week (2/13) while freshman attackman Luke Young (Acworth, Ga.) was chosen as Rookie of the Week (2/20). It runs LC’s total selections to five in 2023 with at least one in each of the first three weeks.

LaGrange and their pair of honorees return to action on Saturday, March 11 when they take on Carroll (Wisc.). That game is set for 12 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee.
