The LaGrange boys soccer team fell just short in a 2-1 loss to Columbus on Monday. It was a gut-wrenching loss for a game that was so close to being salvaged at the end of the game.

With under 20 seconds to go, the ball fell to Davis Knight inside the six-yard box, but he could not guide the ball in the back of the net.

“It fell to the one player that you want the ball to fall to in that situation, and it just didn’t go our way,” Pulliam said.

Columbus took the lead 16 minutes into the first half and kept its lead intact going into halftime. The Grangers came out on the other side of the break and got a goal within five minutes when Cade Hollstrom buried the ball in the back of the net on an assist by Luis Morales.

The Blue Devils were back on top 10 minutes later on a free kick goal. A nervy final 20 minutes saw chances at both ends with neither team able to get the fourth goal in the match.

Columbus is the no. 1 team in AAA and are 8-0 in the season as the Grangers pushed a top Georgia team to its limit but fell just short against their old region rivals.

LaGrange is now 2-6 on the season. The Grangers will be back in action on Thursday in their region opener at Callaway Stadium against Riverdale.
