Troup was able to corral Newnan’s offense in a 3-1 home win on Tuesday.
The game was in a stalemate until the Tigers opened up their scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Devon Murphy delivered a two-RBI single to drive in the winning run on the night. Murphy was superb on the evening, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk. He also got the start on the mound and kept the Cougar bats in check, allowing seven hits and no earned runs on four strikeouts.
The Tigers grabbed an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when Demetrius Hardnett reached on an error which allowed Carson Walker to score.
The Cougars grabbed a run back in the seventh inning on an error and had the tying run on first, but Tripp Cummings shut the door on any attempt from Newnan to pull off a rally. Cummings pitched the final inning and struck out two batters.
Ty Medders and Walker both went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Troup was only able to muster four hits compared to Newnan’s eight but came up with some timely hitting and had Murphy steal the show.
Parker Townsend scored the other Troup run in the game.
Troup is now 6-3 on the season with all three losses coming by a run apiece. The Tigers will host a doubleheader against West Laurens on Saturday.
