Saturday marks the 26th anniversary of a delicious, syrupy tradition for the LaGrange Kiwanis Club — its annual Pancake Breakfast.

The event will be held at First Baptist Church on the Square Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The lineup will begin at 6:45 a.m.

“This event is one of the two fundraisers that we do and that helps put money back into our community,” Kiwanis Club President Jerome Alford said. “I’m excited about the breakfast. We’re back up and running and hopefully, we’re going to be even better this year.”

Attendees will be welcomed by fresh coffee, sausages and pancakes for $7 a plate. Tickets for the pancake breakfast can be purchased from any Kiwanis Club member or on the day of, at the door.

Last year, the club raised approximately $7,000 off the breakfast. Kiwanis club member Craig DeLoach said this year, they hope to raise $7,000 or more.

Typically, proceeds from the event go toward programs that focus on the kids within the community. Last year, the club aimed to raise $4,000 in scholarships for three high schoolers in Troup County.

Alford said the club is looking for more children’s programs to support this year.

“We don’t just make money to be making money. We do these events so that we can give it out to those who need it the most,” Alford said. “There are some programs in the school system that deals with kids that we’re looking at, that we’ve never done before. Our board of directors will make a decision on whatever we raise, we will vote on how to give it out into our community.”

In 26 years of putting on the event, DeLoach said the best part of putting on the event is all the friendly faces that come out.

“It’s just fun being together with all the people,” DeLoach said. “We get to see people, meet with them and have a good time giving back to the community. In the end, that’s what it’s all about.”

Brett Whaley with Twisted Tales Balloons will provide balloons for guests from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the Jungle Bus will be making its first appearance at the event.
