Pushed to the limits.
For the first time since the opening game, the Callaway girls soccer team was given a real challenge and the Cavaliers answered the bell, coming from behind in the second half to beat Eagle’s Landing 3-2. It was also a historical night for the Cavaliers who have won 10 games in a row for the first time in program history.
In an all important region game, it was Mya Lawton and Kate McAteer who delivered the goods. Lawton scored on a scorner in the 50th minute to level the game at two goal apiece before McAteer dispatched a penalty in the 68th minute for her second goal of the game and the winning goal of the match.
McAteer opened the scoring in the third minute of the game, but goals from Eagle’s Landing in the 23rd and 46th minute that canceled the Cavaliers’ early goal and then took a lead the Chargers would not be able to keep.
Raine Hunt made five saves to help secure the win for Callaway.
Callaway’s 10 game win-streak saw the team improve to 10-1 on the season and 3-0 in region play. The Cavaliers will play another pivotal region game on Friday.
