LaGrange girls finish first, boys third at Granger Invitational Tennis Tournament

The Granger Invitational Tennis Tournament saw its start delayed slightly by inclement weather on Friday, but the rain did little to damper a nice weekend for tennis once the sun peaked out from behind the clouds.
Dozens of high school boys and girls tennis teams flocked to Troup County for a weekend of tennis delight.
It was also a delightful event for the hosts whose boys and girls teams had good showings. The girls went a perfect 3-0 to come out on top of the Division IV bracket but it was anything but easy for the Grangers who won all three rounds 3-2.
The opening game for the Grangers was against Sonoraville which the hosts won 3-2 of course.
It was the doubles that separated the two as the Grangers dominated Sonoraville with their two dynamic duos.
No. 1 Singles: Sophie Nix (LG) defeated Hannah Jones (S) 8 – 0
No. 2 Singles: Morgan Guyton (S) defeated Lauren Burgess (LG) 8 – 3
No. 3 Singles: Reese Davis (S) defeated Ana Rollings (LG) 8 – 2
No. 1 Doubles: Minchae Kim and Abby Grace Kornek (LG) defeated Jo Gillette and Abbie
Knight (S) 8 – 0
No. 2 Doubles: Alisa Lee and Anna Claire Lumpkin (LG) defeated Bristin Gordon and
Pamela Aguilar (S) 8 – 1
The second match was against Greenbrier and while the Grangers won 3-2 again it was in a different manner with their three singles players dominating to see LaGrange into the championship match.
No. 1 Singles: Sophie Nix (LG) defeated Keegan Carter (GB) 8 – 2
No. 2 Singles: Lauren Burgess (LG) defeated Savannah McCollum (GB) 8 – 3
No. 3 Singles: Alisa Lee (LG) defeated Makenna Warren (GB) 8 – 1
No. 1 Doubles: Brinkley Vaughn and Maggie Thompson (GB) defeated Minchae Kim and
Abby Grace Kornek (LG) 8 – 5
No. 2 Doubles: Glory Bright and Rebeccah Chacon (GB) defeated Ana Rollings and Anna
Claire Lumpkin (LG) 8 – 6
The Division IV championship matchup saw the Grangers battle it out with Etowah with the hosts coming out on trop 3-2. LaGrange was led by Sophie Nix who went a perfect 3-0 in the tournament as the team’s no. 1 singles player.

No. 2 Singles: Lauren Burgess (LG) defeated Eliza DeWet (E) 6 – 3, 6 – 2
No. 3 Singles: Tania DeWet (E) defeated Anna Rollings (LG) 6 – 2, 7 – 6
No. 1 Doubles: Lindsey Ayers and Olivia Kirkland (E) defeated Minchae Kim and Abby
Grace Kornek (LG) 6 – 3, 6 – 4
No. 2 Doubles: Alisa Lee and Cara Skinner (LG) defeated Jenna Longarce and Hannah
Bryant (E) 7 – 6, 6 – 4
The LaGrange boys had quite the showing as well, finishing in third place for Division III. The Grangers started out on the right foot by dominating Dunwoody II in the first round 5-0.

No. 2 Singles: Noah Black (LG) defeated Drew Hastie (D) 8 – 5
No. 3 Singles: Henry Huberdeau (LG) defeated Jack Lamb (D) 9 – 7
No. 1 Doubles: Towson Partin and Kevin Park (LG) defeated Miller Trego and Will Kitchin
(D) 8 – 1
No. 2 Doubles: Collin Jeffries and Benjamin Lee (LG) defeated Charlie Keeble and
Nicholas Malligan (D) 9 – 7
The second match saw the hosts lose a tight one with Lakeside, Evans. The Grangers lost 3-2 and were extremely close to getting the win and reaching the championship matchup but had to settle for a spot in the third-place game.

No. 1 Doubles: Towson Partin and Kevin Park (LG) defeated Ryan Yin and Daden Dykstra
(LSE) 8 – 1
No. 2 Doubles: Liam Miner and James Sun (LSE) defeated Collin Jeffries and Benjamin Lee
(LG) 8 – 2
The third-place match up saw the Grangers narrowly edge out North Cobb to earn a third-place finish.
No. 1 Singles: Tyler Goldfine (NC) defeated Wesley Minicozzi (LG) 6 – 2, 6 – 4
No. 2 Singles: J.T. Wilson (NC) defeated Noah Black (LG)) 6 – 4, 3 – 6, (10 – 8)
No. 3 Singles: Henry Huberdeau (LG) defeated Zeke Cotton (NC) 6 – 0, 6 – 1
No. 1 Doubles: Towson Partin and Kevin Park (LG) defeated Carson Odom and Quintin
Turner (NC) 6 – 3, 6 – 4
No. 2 Doubles: Collin Jeffries and Benjamin Lee (LG) defeated Justin Shoats and Sebastian
Barr (NC) 7 – 5, 6 – 1
The boys are 11-4 on the season while the girls improved 10-5. The Grangers will play rivals Troup on Thursday.
