The Callaway baseball team took a critical 3-0 region loss to Eagle’s Landing on Wednesday — their second loss to the Chargers this season.

Both teams had five hits and it was an even game throughout but three runs from the Chargers in the third inning proved to be the decisive factor in the game.

Bryce Hubbard had an outstanding showing on the mound but was let down by his offense and at times, his defense behind him with the team committing two errors in the game. Hubbard struck out a whopping 13 batters and only allowed five hits in the game. Hubbard went 3-for-3 and walked to reach base safely four times but no other Cavalier found much rhythm in the game.

Landon Alsobrook and Blake Harrington each had a hit apiece.

The closest the Cavaliers got to scoring was in the top of the second when Garrett Huckleberry was able to get to third base with just one out, but Callaway could not find a timely hit to bring him home. Callaway had another chance to score in the top of the fifth but stranded two runners in scoring position with two outs.

Callaway is now 11-5 overall and 4-2 in region play. The Cavaliers will play their fourth game in four days on Thursday when they take on region opponent McNair.
