One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. This weekend Hogansville’s first annual community yard sale is set to take place.

Event creator Laney Ralston said the idea of a citywide yard sale came from her husband, Nick Ralston, who encouraged her to make it a reality.

“The yard sale is a way to invite people from all over West Georgia to come and see what our sweet little town has to offer,” Ralston said. “Being between two larger cities, Newnan and LaGrange, sometimes Hogansville can often be overlooked. The yard sale could be a way for people within our community to get to know one another too.”

Ralston said the city has been supportive of the yard sale.

“We really appreciate their support, as well as the support from our dear friends, Jessica and Toni, who are always there to lend a hand, and all others who have been so eager to share information, as well as excitement, about the event,” Ralston said.

As the first citywide yard sale for Hogansville, Ralston said she hopes it will be the first of many community yard sales for the city.

“The goal for me, personally, is that it will be held each spring and that it will draw even a fraction of the attention that the Hummingbird Festival receives each fall,” Ralston said.

Currently, there are 17 homes set to participate in the yard sale this weekend. The map of homes can be viewed on the Hogansville Annual Community Yard Sale Facebook page.

Ralston said she hopes the event will bring people together for a weekend of yard sale fun.

“I think it’s pretty empowering to realize how much of an impact anyone can have on their community, you don’t have to be on a board or council to bring your friends and neighbors together,” she said. “I am very grateful that we are in a position to be able to be a part of something like this.”
