LCS outlasts Skipstone at home

Lafayette Christian got a heart pounding 9-6 win over Skipstone Academy on Monday. After getting some early runs, the cougars were made to sweat by the end of the game. 

The Cougars took an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Ayden Thornton got the action started when he walked with the bases loaded to drive in the first run of the game. Paul Batistini drove in the following two runs in the inning when he reached base on a fielder’s choice. 

Noah Childree scored on an error in the bottom of the second to add onto the Cougars’ lead. 

Skiptone got a couple of runs back in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Cougar lead to just two runs. The Cougars exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to reaffirm their control of the game. 

Dustin Ogle hit an RBI single to drive in the first Cougar run of the inning. David Karvelas drove in two runs with a double to make it 7-2 Lafayette Christian. Cody Batastini scored on a wild pitch for the Cougars eighth run of the game. Paul Batastini kept up his big afternoon by driving in the final run of the game when he reached on an error. 

The Cougars only had three hits in the game with Ogle, Karvelas and Braden Firth each getting one. 

Skipstone committed five errors which helped contribute to the Cougars offensive success. 

Firth got the start on the mound and went four innings, allowing just one hit on eight strikeouts in a dominant showing. Whitt Bowden and Dalton Colquett each got time on the mound in relief.

Lafayette Christian is now 7-2 on the season. The Cougars will be at Holy Ground on Thursday.
