The Callaway baseball team took a tough 5-2 loss Tueaday to Landmark Christian.

The Cavaliers led for a large stretch of the game but could not close it out and let a lead slip away in the seventh inning.

Up to the seventh inning it was a real pitcher’s duel. Bryce Hubbard was in command for the Cavaliers during his six innings on the mound, striking out 13 batters and only allowing three hits and one earned run.

Landon Alsobrook got the action started for the Cavaliers, grounding into a fielder’s choice. Landmark Christian scored a run in the sixth inning to tie the game before Alsobrook stepped up once again for the Cavaliers, hitting an RBI double to give Callaway its one run lead back. Alsobrook was by far the strongest performer at the plate for the home team, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Lashun Gates got the Cavaliers only other hit in the game.

Landmark Christian snatched the game away from Callaway in the seventh inning when the home team committed a critical error with two outs that let Landmark back in the game.

It was a crushing loss for a team that was one out away from a crucial region win.

Callaway is now 12-6 overall and 6-3 in region play. The Cavaliers will be back on the diamond on Thursday in a rematch against Landmark that will have major region standing implications.
