The LaGrange girls soccer team trounced Troup 10-0 on Tuesday to move one step closer to hosting a first round playoff game. It was the penultimate game of the year for both teams as the soccer season winds down.
It was the Karley Perry show for the Grangers as the Tigers could come up with no answers for her attacking prowess. She scored five goals and assisted on another two as she directly contributed to seven of the 10 goals scored in the match.
Sam Cottle was also outstanding, scoring the opening goal of the game before proceeding to add two assists to her name as well. Reese Humphries was at the heart of the LaGrange attack and even though she just missed a couple of chances of her own, still contributed two assists. Tatum Fritchley and Carlee Roland each had a goal and an assist. Gabi Martinez scored the decisive goal that ended the match a minute into the second half. Demi Russell also had an assist for the Grangers.
There was precious little going forward for Troup, who came down from the high of winning its last two games by a combined score of 19-0. Allie Foster was at the heart of most of the positive moments in attack for the Tigers. The 10 goals conceded were not down to the goalkeeper — Haley Kitchens — who made a ton of important saves to stop the game from ending sooner.
LaGrange is now 9-8 overall and 5-1 in region play. The Grangers will have a showdown with Whitewater at Callaway Stadium on Thursday with a home playoff game on the line.
Troup fell to 2-10 on the season and 2-5 in region play. The Tigers will have a non-region game on the road to Spencer on Thursday in what will be their final game of the season.
