The LaGrange girls soccer team locked horns with Whitewater on Thursday with a home playoff game on the line. With a playoff spot clinched for both teams, the two went at each with the attacking intent with the Grangers coming out on the losing end of a tight game that finished 3-1.
The first half featured chances for both sides before the Wildcats broke the game open with 14 minutes left in the game. It came less than a minute after Sam Cottle stung the crossbar with a curling strike from just inside the 18-yard box.
Directly following the kickoff from the Wildcats goal, a mistake at the back left Cottle wide open in front of goal and she made no mistake to level the match with 13 minutes to go in the first half. The game stayed level at the break despite both teams having a chance to break the deadlock.
The Grangers could not find the same gear in the second half as the Wildcats put two goals past them.
Emma Maradik made a couple of fine saves in the second half to keep the Grangers in the game.
This was the regular season finale for LaGrange who finished the season 9-9 overall and 5-2 in region play. The Grangers enter the AAAA playoffs as a third seed and will be on the road on April 13th against a yet to be announced opponent.
