The LaGrange baseball team got back to work after two delays that saw a doubleheader with North Clayton scheduled for Tuesday play out on Thursday. The Grangers were anything but rusty, returning to the diamond in dominating fashion, sweeping the doubleheader with ease. 

LaGrange used a mix of regular starters and reserves to cruise past North Clayton 15-0. The game lasted all of three innings with the Grangers scoring five runs in the opening inning before adding three in the second and seven in the third to put North Clayton out of its misery early. 

Sophomore Caden Wood was sensational, pitching a no-hitter and was one hit batter away from throwing a perfect game as he had nine strikeouts to his name as well. 

Brandon Bennett led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Gryson Cockrell had the only other multi-hit game for the Grangers, going 2-for-3 as well with two runs scored and an RBI. Cooper Stephens, Trey Cook and Robbie Parker all scored three runs apiece. 

Cole Garner, Rob Skinner, Ty Monteith, Mason Calhoun, Cook, and Parker all had a hit apiece.

Game two was almost a carbon copy of game one with the Grangers prevailing 15-0 once again. The side was heavily rotated from one but it did not matter as the Grangers were in another class than their opponent. 

Once again it was a no-hitter from the Granger pitching staff with Skinner and Kayden Sutton combining to pitch the one in game two. Skinner went two innings and struck out six while Sutton struck out three in his long inning of work.

The offense was just as lively in game two, scoring two in the first and one run in the second before exploding for 12 in the third inning. 

Seth Stargell and Tanner Langley stole the limelight in the third with Stargell hitting an inside the park home run and Langley putting one out of the park. Stargell’s ended up being a grand slam. Stargell was 1-for-3 with a run scored and four RBIs. Langley was 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored.  

Ace pitcher and Auburn commit Trevor Booton does not get many at-bats but showed his two-way play by going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the game. Grady Westmoreland, Preston Pressley, Lucas Harpole, Blake Miller and Bennett all had a hit apiece in the game. Jackson Bozeman scored two runs in the game. 

LaGrange has now won six in a row — all in region play — to improve to 14-7 overall and 7-1 in region play. The Grangers will host Trinity Christian on Friday for a region doubleheader.
