The LaGrange girls tennis team marches on after beating Burke County 5-0 to earn a spot in the AAAA state round of 16. This is not unfamiliar territory for the Grangers, who made a run to the state championship match a season ago.
The Grangers were simply dominant on the day, losing just a single game. No. 1 and no. 2 single players Sophie Nix and Laruen Burgess won 6-0 in both sets. No. 3 singles player An Rollings won the first set 6-0 before claiming victory in her match with a 6-1 win in the second set.
The no. 1 doubles team of Minchae Kim and Abby Grace Kornek won both sets 6-0. No. 2 doubles duo Alisa Lee and Anna Claire Lumpkin got the day off from competition as Burke County forfeited.
LaGrange will host Cairo in the round of 16 next week. Cairo beat Perry 4-1 to advance out of the first round.
