On Tuesday, the LaGrange City Council approved an annexation and zoning request for an approximately 4.5-acre property in the 1700 block of West Point Rd.
The property is located adjacent to McDonald’s on West Point Road and connects West Point Road and Vernon Rd.
The applicant, Handley Lamont Weathers, requested that the property be rezoned from single-family medium-density residential and general commercial to corridor mixed-use.
City Planner Mark Kostial said conceptual plans submitted by the applicant indicated that the portion fronting West Point Rd. would be for an undisclosed commercial development. The rear portion fronting Vernon Rd. would also have some sort of commercial application, he said.
Troup County was contacted about the annexation request, and they did not express any opposition to the annexation.
Kostial said the city spoke with nearby Weathers Honda about joining the annexation request, but they continue to have no interest in being annexed into the city.
Both the annexation and rezoning were unanimously approved by the council.
In other business, the council:
4 Approved a funding request from the LaGrange Memorial Library to complete ongoing renovations in the amount of $200,000.
4Appointed Bill Stump and Sandy Lee to four-year terms on the Downtown Development Authority of LaGrange (DDA II).
4Appointed Quay Boddie to the Troup County Board of Health to succeed Willie Edmondson.
