Chick-fil-A on Commerce Avenue is moving to its new location on Vernon Road later this year, leading to questions about whether Publix would follow suit when its new location is ready.

A for-lease sign in front of the Publix shopping center on Commerce Avenue has also led to questions.

But those questions can be put to rest — Publix isn’t going anywhere and will have two locations in LaGrange.

Nicole Krauss, Media Relations Manager for Publix, said the supermarket chain does not have plans to close Publix #540 (Commerce Avenue) when Publix #1873 (Vernon Road) opens.

Krauss noted that the sign in front of the current Publix is likely for another location in the shopping center.

“A real estate broker typically places [signs] on the frontage for the best visibility.  If there are any vacancies in the center, the prospective tenant can contact the broker for in-line space, out parcels, etc.” Krauss said in an email.

Wells Scott at Austin Sumner Properties confirmed the leasing sign is for a 1,470-square-foot space that is available next to the Little Caesar’s in the shopping center.

The Chick fil-A on Commerce said previously that it plans to move in a few months. The restaurant’s new location is still under construction on Vernon Road.
