Long Cane Elementary School Principal Katie Brown announced her resignation from the school Wednesday.

A letter signed by Brown was posted on the LCES Facebook page. Brown said she and her husband, Matt, had accepted jobs at Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Warm Springs.

Brown has served as LCES’ principal for five years. She said her final day as principal will be May 26.

“LCE is a special place and will continue to be a special place,” Brown wrote. “I am fighting tears as I write this. I love all of you and I know LCE will continue to thrive and flourish.”

According to previous LDN reporting, originally from New York, Brown’s family moved to Peachtree City when she was in her junior year of high school. She then attended LaGrange College and played on the women’s soccer team. Brown previously worked as an instructional specialist at Callaway Elementary School. She also taught kindergarten and second grade at Ethel Kight Elementary School before working as a math academic coach for seven years.

“Mrs. Brown has been an outstanding principal and has served in numerous roles in the Troup County School System,” said Superintendent Brian Shumate in a statement. “I hate to see her go. As a principal, she did great Long Cane Elementary School and I know she will be missed in that community as well as throughout Troup County. We appreciate her service to the Troup County School System, and we certainly wish her well.”
