Deputies say 15-year-old shot through face into shoulder

Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies say the incident where an unidentified teen was shot in the face over the weekend appears to be an accident.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2400 block of Cameron Mill Rd. late Friday evening around 5:57 p.m. in reference to reports of a subject that had been shot in the head.
Deputies arrived to find the 15-year-old male victim had been shot in the face. The victim was airlifted to an Atlanta area hospital in serious condition.
According to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the initial investigation revealed that the victim, along with other teenagers, were carelessly handling a handgun in the home when the weapon was fired and the victim was struck in the face.
According to TCSO Public Information Officer Sgt. Stewart Smith, the bullet struck the victim in the face and continued to his shoulder.
The victim’s current condition is unclear at this time.
Deputies say evidence from the initial investigation appears to indicate that the incident is just a tragic accident.
