On Wednesday around noon the Troup County Fire Department and Troup County Sheriff’s Office responded to R. Shaefer Heard Park on West Point Lake for a possible drowning. A male was reported in the water around the boat ramp and dock struggling after falling off a boat into the water, according to a press release from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. Bystanders heard the male calling for help and called 911 along with trying to keep the male’s head above water until they could move him closer to the boat ramp.

Rangers from the Corp of Engineers arrived initially and began CPR along with fire department personnel from Troup County Fire Department until AMR arrived on scene. The adult male from Ovilla, Texas was transported by AMR to Wellstar West Georgia in Lagrange where is currently in ICU in stable condition.
