On Thursday, LaGrange Youth Council member and rising star Alisa Lee, presented to the city council about her time as an intern for the city.

The young leader served as an intern for the city’s marketing and communications department and also served on the youth council.

Lee is a rising senior at LaGrange High and is in line to be the school’s next valedictorian. During her time on the youth council, Lee helped lead the city’s outreach program to give gift bags to veterans and the elderly last year.

Lee said during her three-week internship, she was able to work with six different city departments.

“I spent a day with Ms. Katie Van Schoor with marketing and communications. Mr. [Patrick] Bowie with utilities, Mr. Brent [Gibbs] with Sweetland, with the police and fire departments, and with Mr. Bill [Bulloch],” Lee said. “They explained their daily roles and showed me some of their recent projects, including the preparation for the Commodores show and the recent park projects.”

“I feel like I got a really unique perspective as a rising high school senior who was able to be exposed to the behind-the-scenes of the government that plays its role in my daily life,” Lee said.

Lee said she loves being a community advocate and the internship opportunity has given her so much that she is excited to see how the experience will help her become a better-contributing community member.

“The insight that I gained and the connections that I’ve made helped broaden my perspectives, and I feel it will be very useful in the future,” Lee said.
