The Troup 12u Nationals, representing the state of Georgia, won their opening game of the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series on Friday, beating Tennessee 10-3 after only five innings of play.

Team Georgia, as they are now called, took a commanding early lead when they poured in five runs in the top of the first inning. Bryson Pike walked with the bases loaded to drive in the first run and get Georgia off on the right foot. Ben Brown followed this with a two-run single to give the team a quick 3-0 lead. An error allowed Pike to score and a Cameron Poe ground out drove in another with Georgia snatching momentum right from the jump.

Two innings later Georgia tacked on another run to its lead when Ezra Cook hit a sacrifice fly to drive Tae Pope home.

Tennessee quickly cut the six run Georgia lead in half in the bottom of the third inning when they plated three runs, all with two outs on the board.

Georgia was not phased by this and kept on chugging. The offense sparked to life once again in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs. Georgia flipped the script on Tennessee and scored all four of those runs with two outs.

Peyton Spears got the action started with a one-run single. Wyatt Martin drove in two runs with a single followed by Pope stealing home to make it 10-3.

Hunter Jordan got the start on the mound and was superb in his two innings of work, allowing no hits on four strikeouts. Cook, Brown and Roswell Swanson all picked up the baton and ran with it during their time on the mound as not a single one of the runs scored by Tennessee were earned.

Pope led the way for the Georgia offense, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Spears, Martin, Brown and Connor Arrington all had a hit apiece.

Georgia will take on Texas on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the second round.
