Troup softball lost its second game of a back-to-back on Wednesday to Harris County to fall to 0-2 on the season. The battle of the Tigers saw Harris County jump out to an early lead before ultimately coming out on top 9-3.

The Tigers from Harris County jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the second inning and an additional one in the fourth to make it 4-0 heading to the fifth inning. Harris County extended its lead to 6-0 in the top of the fifth before the Tigers from Troup County were finally able to generate some offense in the bottom of the inning, halving the deficit with three runs.

Senior Haley Kitchens had the only hit and RBI in the season opener for the Tigers and kept up her hot start to 2023 when she drove in two runs with a single to open the scoring for Troup. Kitchens went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Camdyn Bassett drove in the third run of the game for Troup with a single. Troup left the bases loaded in the inning and could not chip into the Harris County lead any further.

Harris County tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth to round out the scoring in the game.

One of the downfalls for Troup on the evening was the fact that the team committed five costly errors on defense.

Anna Grace Keller got the start on the mound after pitching in relief on Tuesday. She put in a solid four innings, allowing only four hits on five strikeouts with one earned run to her name. Kaitlyn Smalley came in and pitched the final two innings for Troup.

Bassett, Smalley, Keller and Patience Watkins all got their first hits of the 2023 season.

Troup will get no chance to rest with a matchup against Bowdon scheduled for Thursday as the Tigers are set to play their third game in as many days to start the season.
