Hazel McKeen Barfield, 88, passed away peacefully Aug. 8, 2023, in LaGrange, Georgia. The daughter of Charlie Will and Annie Wright McKeen, Hazel was born on July 13, 1935 in Wedowee, Alabama. She moved to LaGrange, Georgia at an early age and lived there the rest of her life.

She married her sweetheart George Buford Barfield on Jan. 7, 1956. She and Buford worked hard and raised two sons together. She retired from Milliken after receiving her 50-year service recognition.

She enjoyed travel and went on road trips across the country. One of her favorite trips was to Hawaii. She loved cooking and hosting family gatherings, especially birthdays and all the holidays.

She was a member of United Congregational Christian Church, which became Cedarcrest Community Church. Hazel is survived by her sons, Keith (Hessa) Barfield and Wayne (Carol Ann) Barfield; grandchildren Heather (Park) Chappelle, Mitchell (Olivia) Barfield, Sacca (Russell) Murray, William Barfield, Jillian Barfield, Madalyn Barfield, and Garrett Barfield; four great-grandchildren: Copeland, Charlton, George and Jackson; brother Garvis McKeen, sister Miriam Treadwell; sister-in-law Barbara (Danny) Blackburn; nieces Donna Askins, Becky McKeen, and Denise (Chris) Murray; nephews Lamar (Dorothy) McKeen, Garvis McKeen Jr., and Danny Crosby; and many other relatives.

Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband Buford, sister-in-law Betty McKeen, and brothers-in-law Tubby Treadwell and John Yarborough.

The family would like to thank her special neighbor Jennifer and church friends who visited her regularly. 

The family is grateful for the wonderful care Hazel received at West Georgia Medical Center and Hospice.

A gathering of family and friends for Hazel will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023 from Noon to 1 P.M. at Stiffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange, Georgia.

Following the gathering of family and friends will be a service at 1 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel, LaGrange, Georgia.

Hazel will be laid to rest in RestLawn Memory Gardens, LaGrange, Georgia.
