A BB-gun was found on a Troup County School bus Thursday, according to a press release from the Troup County School System.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. Thursday, TCSS said a parent of a Callaway Elementary student called the TCSS’ Transportation Department to report a potential weapon on an afternoon school bus.

After reviewing the bus video, the TCSS staff turned the situation over to law enforcement. After an investigation, it was determined that a student had brought a BB – pistol onto the school bus and showed it to other students, according to the press release.

TCSS said it will follow all of its school board disciplinary procedures, and law enforcement will continue the investigation.

“While this is an unfortunate situation, we are thankful for the students and parents who reported the situation quickly,” the school system said in a statement. “As always, student safety is our number one priority. The principal of Callaway Elementary, Melanie Hill will notify CES parents and students about the incident.”
