The LaGrange Police Department is investigating an animal cruelty case related to a dog with a large laceration on its neck and other injuries that resulted in maggot infestation.
The tray dog was found Wednesday at approximately 1:20 p.m. on the 100 block of Gordon Commercial Drive.
Bystanders directed officers to a factory located in the area where the dog had wandered inside and laid down. According to the press release from LPD, officers retrieved the animal and found it had a large laceration on the neck, suspected to be from a collar or chain. The dog’s head was swollen and had other injuries that resulted in maggot infestation. Officers quickly took the animal to a local veterinarian. Upon examination, the doctor determined the animal could not be saved and had to be euthanized.
The LaGrange Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify the owner of the animal. Anyone with information is asked to contact LPD’s Animal Services at 706-298-3606 or the LaGrange Police Department at 706-883-2603. Anonymous information can be provided to Troup County Crimestoppers at 706-812-1000.
