In honor of the deployment of a student’s parent, LaGrange Academy held Warrior Walk for the Dixon’s.

Mike Coburn, director of marketing and communications, said the idea of the Warrior Walk came from an educator who teaches the children of Jamario Dixon, a solider who was deployed last week.

“One of our teachers found out that Mr. Dixon was being deployed and requested that we put this on for the family just to show our support,” Coburn said. “We really wanted to come together as one to make sure the kids and the family felt supported in this time of transition,” Coburn said.

Coburn said the family was appreciative of the effort the school put in to show support.

“The kids were really excited to see their dad walking down the hall, supported by all their friends and their teachers as a whole school. The Dixons themselves, Mr. And Mrs. Dixon, said they felt very appreciative that the school was willing to take a moment to recognize them as well,” Coburn said.

Coburn said that traditionally the Warrior Walks aren’t given to families.

“Warrior walks are something that has been historically done for like athletic teams that are in the playoffs but we felt it was really important to support this family. With Mr. Dixon being deployed, that’s not always an easy transition for families, and we wanted to make sure that the Dixons and their children felt supported by their LaGrange Academy family,” Coburn said.

From the success of putting on a Warrior Walk for the Dixons, Coburn said it could add an option for families going through similar circumstances.

“We will explore putting on Warrior Walks for families as an option. It’s never been done as an option before but I think we could maybe open the window for something we can do on certain circumstances,” Coburn said. I don’t think it is something we will do often, but it is something that is now an option under certain circumstances that we can do for families to show our support.”
