Long Cane beats Gardner Newman

Long Cane had no problems in its game versus Gardner Newman on Tuesday, winning 17-1 at
Shuford Fields. 

The Mustangs opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, but Long Cane quickly answered with 12 runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead. 

The Cougars added five more runs in the bottom of the second to round out the scoring as the game only lasted 2.5 innings. 

Brooklyn Render led the way for the Long Cane offense, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored.Camryn Nunis also had a big showing, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Madison Little, Hadley Johnston, Rhiley Tatum, Abby Taylor and Ariah Askew all had a hit apiece. 

McKynlee Foster got the start on the mound for the Cougars and dominated in her two innings of work, allowing just one hit on three strikeouts. Ryleigh Karr also came in and pitched an inning in relief, striking out all three batters she faced to end the game. Despite not having a hit, Karr also drove in two runs and scored one as well. 

Sage Steele got the start on the mound for the Mustangs while Addison Wright came in and pitched an inning as well. 

Long Cane has now won two in a row to improve to 2-1 on the season and will host Carrollton on Wednesday at 5:15. Gardner Newman will host Callaway Middle on Thursday.
