Fine margins decided Thursday’s softball game between LaGrange and Trinity Christian with the Grangers coming out on top 2-1 in extra innings.
Kimberly Reynolds provided the decisive moment when she delivers a sacrifice bunt to drive home Abby McGill in the top of the eighth inning.
Starting pitcher Zoe Thompson helped make sure the fine margins went in LaGrange’s favor. She pitched a dominant complete game, allowing just five hits on four strikeouts.
The only run allowed was unearned in the seventh, and she stayed in the game for the eighth inning to make sure the Lions would not comeback.
Offense was at a premium for both teams as neither could string together much at the plate.
Shelby Siggers proved to be the difference maker when she hit a one-run single in the top of the second.
The Lions had a real chance to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth when they led off with a double, but Thompson worked her way out of the jam.
Trinity Christian got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning and were eventually able to break through and tie the game on a passed ball with two outs.
Ta’Niya Taylor scored the first run for the Grangers.
Tatum Nation had two hits while McGill, Siggers and Tatiana Dudley had one apiece.
LaGrange (4-3) is now 4-0 in region play and will take on Whitewater at home next Tuesday in a pivotal region clash as the teams finished 1-2 in the region standings last season.
