Familiar candidates will be on the ballot for local elections in November along with a few newcomers as qualifying nears completion. Elections Supervisor Andy Harper said 15 local candidates have qualified for the ballot overall.

Five candidates are currently running unopposed if no additional opponents qualify on Friday.

Qualifying in West Point ended on Tuesday and qualifying for the City of LaGrange and Hogansville will end on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

In West Point, current council member Deedee Williams has qualified to run for mayor against incumbent Steve Tramell. Williams is vacating her council seat to seek the position.

Three at-large council seats will be up for grabs in West Point, including Williams’ seat. West Point does not have council districts so the top three vote-getters will win the seats. Incumbents Sandra Thornton and Gerald Ledbetter have qualified for the ballot along with challengers Andra Haynes, Arron Lewis II, Sean Erique Moore and Kevin Patrick.

In LaGrange, incumbent District 1C Councilman Mark Mitchell and District 2C Councilman Quay Boddie have qualified. No opponents have qualified to face either as of Thursday morning.

Councilman Leon Childs has qualified to run for reelection to his District 2B seat. Only Travis D. Hart has qualified to challenge him for the seat so far.

Only single candidates have qualified for municipal elections in Hogansville. Incumbent Mandy Neese has qualified to rerun for her Post 3 council seat and incumbent Mark Ayers has qualified to run for his current Post 4 council seat but neither have any opponents as of the day before the end of qualifying.

Similarly, Jason E. Baswell is the only candidate who has qualified to run for the Post 5 seat currently held by Toni Striblin.
